Principal’s Report
Art & Design Exhibition
Congratulations to all our very creative students and teachers who made our art and design exhibition such a success. The diversity of the exhibition impressed all of our visitors on the opening night and throughout the week. Our hospitality students were marvellous ambassadors of our campus, gracious and very professional in their chef uniforms, the food they served was first class. Our college string ensemble gave a special ambience to our evening.
It is so uplifting to walk through our art space and see the talent of our students on display. As our School Education Director, Louise Ferguson said:
“What a wonderful showcase of the achievements of students and teachers! Congratulations to everyone involved special congratulations to the musicians and the hospitality students who looked after us.”
Other comments from parents included: “My kids art work is great and surrounded by other fantastic work.”
“I’m a very proud parent.”
“Talented children. Delicious food. Great Art.”
“So much talent in one school and such gracious hosts. Well done!”
“A spectacular display of creativity.”
As our special guest, Michael Lo Sordo said: “Leichhardt High gave me the opportunity to begin dreams that have become reality.” Michael has not only developed his own fashion label, he is now exporting overseas. Congratulations to such a successful ex student of Leichhardt High. Thank you, Michael, for making time to come back and visit your former school and inspire our present students to pursue their dreams now and in the future.
World Teacher’s Day
Leichhardt campus took some time out on Friday 30 October to celebrate world teacher’s day. I would like to thank and acknowledge the teachers of Leichhardt campus for their ongoing contribution to the education of our young people.
This special day was begun in 1994 by UNESCO to remind people everywhere of the importance of teaching in changing lives and society. It is estimated that there is a shortage of over two million teachers in Africa; this means that millions of children may never receive an education.
This is a strong reminder to us all in Australia of the importance of our strong public education system that is staffed by qualified and motivated teachers.
School Administration Staff
Along with our teachers I would also like to acknowledge the positive contribution made by all members of the school administration team, school learning support officers and the general assistant who assist teachers and students in so many ways at Leichhardt campus.
Building projects
Work is about to commence on our canteen. This will mean that a very limited menu will be on offer until the end of the term. Only sandwiches, salads, drinks and cold food will be available. Students will need to either bring other food from home or select from this limited range. The canteen will be operating out of a small portable canteen.
Other building projects that will commence before the end of the term include our COLA, upgrade of the remaining science labs and a long awaited new roof on A Block. We are hoping that all of these major works will be completed prior to the beginning of the 2010 school year.
Our oval upgrade has now been completed and our students will be able to access this first class facility from next week.
Special congratulations to the following Leichhardt stars:
- Ms Baird’s male choral group who have been selected to perform at the School Spectacular.
